Conference Brief: National Conference of NELTA 2019, Hetauda, Nepal
With an aim of partaking professional discourse and enhancing professional development of English language teachers, NELTA the province no. 3, successfully organized national conference on 2-3 March, 2019 at Solidarity International Academy, Hetauda, Nepal. The main theme of the conference was “Transformations in ELT Methods: Addressing the 21st Century Classroom Contexts”. The conference was inaugurated by Hon. Dormani Poudel, Chief Minister of Province no. 3, Nepal. In the program, other important dignitaries of Hetauda district were present. The program was chaired by Mr. Ganesh Prasad Humagain, President, NELTA Province no. 3 cum Central Committee Member.
In the conference, Prof. Dr. Jai Raj Awasthi, advisor to NELTA, presented a keynote on “ELT in Post-method Era”, and another keynote speech was delivered on “Expanding Sphere of English: Challenges and Choices for ELT” by Prof. Dr. Abhi Subedi. Similarly, Prof. Dr. Vishnu S. Rai, Prof. Dr. Laxman Gnawali, Mrs. Motikala Subba Dewan, Mr. Ganga Ram Gautam, Mr. Hemanta Raj Dahal, Dr. Hari Adhikari, Mr. Bishwa Raj Gautam, Mrs. Vaishali Pradhan, Mr. Narayan Prasad Tiwari and Mr. Gunaraj Nepal gave plenary talks on various ELT issues.
The conference was attended by representatives of different district branch committee members, life members, American Embassy, British Council, Kathmandu University, Pokhara University, Mid-western University, Far-western University, Tribhuvan University and other educational stakeholders of Nepal. Nearly 900 participants from home and abroad attended the conference. During the conference, 2 keynote speeches, 10 plenary talks, 153 concurrent sessions, and 25 Interactive Language Fair Stalls were conducted. The papers and presentations in the conference mainly included the areas of ELT in post-method era, technology and language teaching, student centered teaching, shifting trends in ELT from past to present, literature and language teaching, reflective pedagogy, discourse analysis, English medium instruction, professional development of teachers, and other areas of ELT.
